Frank Ocean has undoubtedly soundtracked a great deal of romantic encounters since he rocketed to stardom with 2012’s mammoth album channel ORANGE. His breathy vocals and tales of lost loves seem readymade for an "in-the-bedroom" playlist. But aside from any of his actual romantic partners, how many people can claim that they have had their dates enhanced by the presence of Ocean himself? Well for starters, Chance The Rapper can.
Chance recently gave an incredibly revealing interview with GQ wherein he told a story straight out of a fan’s wildest dreams. One fine day, while Frank was crashing in his Los Angeles mansion dubbed the Koi Kastle, Chance had a girl over. “I was on a date one time at the crib, and we're sitting in the front room, maybe rolling up some weed or something.” Frank Ocean was downstairs, somewhere. “And then Frank just comes up and starts playing the piano and lightly singing in the background of our date. Obviously, that scored me a lot of points with this female.”
This is of course, the mansion that Chance The Rapper infamously split with sadboy singer/songwriter James Blake, and it played host to all manner of their music industry friends. Though it has also just recently come to light that the story behind the coolest roommates ever is not as simple as we were led to believe. Although Chance has insisted that they signed the lease together, Blake gave a statement shortly after the GQ profile’s publication saying the following: “I turned up and he told me my name was on the lease, which was creepy because I’d never signed anything. I’d never and still have never heard of Koi Kastle, had never seen a picture of the home and had never been to or known the existence of the area it was in.”
In short, drama!!
