The machine that is Cristiano Ronaldo was named the world’s best male player at the 2017 Best FIFA Football Awards in London last night. The award recognizes the world’s greatest from November 2016 to November 2017 and is voted on by journalists, national team coaches, captains and the fans.

Ronaldo was the clear favorite to win because of Real Madrid’s impressive trophy haul in 2017, having won La Liga, the Spanish Super Cup, the UEFA Champions League (as defending champions) and the UEFA Super Cup.

In winning this year, Ronaldo beat out Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Paris St-Germain’s Neymar Jr., who finished second and third, respectively.

This marks the fifth time the Portuguese has been named world player of the year, tying up his fierce on-pitch rival Messi.

Real Madrid’s star man now looks towards France Football’s Ballon d’Or, which split from Fifa’s award last year and will be awarded towards the end of 2017. Ronaldo is considered by many as the favorite for that award as well, although he will face fierce competition from Messi and Neymar again.

In related news, Nike made Ronaldo a special pair of football boots to celebrate winning the award.
