Union

Brand: ESSENTIALS x Union LA

Release Date: September 9

Buy: Union LA

Editor's Notes: It's been a hell of a year for Union. The stalwart retailer is living up to its name with a slew of commemorative collaborations for its 30th anniversary, uniting with peers like NOAH and Stüssy. The year's far from over and it's now time for Fear of God's ESSENTIALS sub-label to join the party.

ESSENTIALS has lived up to its name the past couple years, to say the least. Even before its Fall/Winter 2021 collection launched this month, ESSENTIALS' branded goods have become pretty much essential for even the most casual FoG fans.

Something about those boxy cuts and easy silhouettes just makes ESSENTIALS' hoodies and tees fit into basically every wardrobe. That can't-miss-it bold branding doesn't hurt either.

ESSENTIALS' Union collaboration leans hard into that approachability, eschewing the line's slightly more advanced knitwear and work shirts for classic ESSENTIALS loungewear.

For this celebratory drop, ESSENTIALS has blessed Union with some new takes on its signature athleisure items. Hoodies, T-shirts, sweatpants, pants, and a matching cap are all here, finished with glossy co-branding and some unmissably bold tie-dye. Is tie-dye still in season? Who cares!

This marks ESSENTIALS' first time doing tie-dye, interestingly, and its red, pink, and white swirls are surprisingly vivid for the basics-minded brand.

It's a suitable stand-in for fireworks in honor of Union's 30th anniversary, flashier than anything ESSENTIALS has ever cooked up. It's also appropriate that Union is pushing ESSENTIALS even further, given that Union has been supporting FoG since the beginning.

Of course, faded black and army green ESSENTIALS gear will also be available, but the more colorful sets feel like a true "union" (get it?!?!?!!) of shared ideals.
