Ferragamo seems to have this innate ability to make anyone look sharp, polished and basically, like they have everything figured out.

It might be because Maximilian Davis, who joined the fashion house back in 2022, knows to never underestimate the power of timeless fashion, reworking classics for modern tastebuds with his own fresh perspective. The new Pre-Fall collection continues this legacy with a sophisticated blend of traditional silhouettes, elevated through modern twists that draw on Hollywood glamor and Western aesthetics.

This is Davis’s first Pre-Fall collection for the brand, and since becoming a part of the Ferragamo family, he’s managed to define a strong and streamlined aesthetic. His collections have all the high quality tailoring and elegance you’d expect from an Italian fashion house, to which he adds interesting contemporary nuances that together create an effortlessly cool and collected wardrobe.

With the Pre-Fall collection, he continues steadily on this sartorial path, delivering clean-cut silhouettes and referencing Western fashion and Americana culture thanks to his use of denim, leather and gingham print.

“I want to explore what contemporary essentials are, from denim to evening wear,” explains Davis. “To take classic pieces in the everyday wardrobe and twist or subvert them with textures and materials that make them feel more modern, more playful and more unexpected.”

His vision comes to life throughout the collection, as does his fearless no-frills attitude to making a statement. Davis made it clear to everyone at the Spring 2023 show that red is synonymous with the brand (shoutout to the dyed sand floor) — and it remains a stand out feature in the Pre-Fall collection with monochromatic looks brought to life with  fierce pops of red, and new iterations of the Ferragamo bag with ombre red cut-out details.

Here and there you’ll notice the allure of Hollywood glamor, subtly applied in that unique way Davis does best. Every collection needs a showstopper, and when you make a dress out of gold foiled eel skin, you definitely tick that box. You can even wear a slice of history, because Davis has brought back a reinterpretation of Ferragamo’s iconic Rainbow sandal. The shoe was first designed for Judy Garland back in 1938 when the founder was a successful shoemaker to the stars — and just think, now it could be you stepping into those shoes.

Davis needed someone that he could trust to capture the concept behind his collection, so called upon rising star Tyler Mitchell. “Tyler is someone who I’ve grown up with; we’re part of the same community and we’ve always spoken about collaborating,” explains Davis. “There’s a simplicity and elegance to his work and the way that he captures people; a laid-back clarity which is never forced.” The synergy between the two creatives comes alive in the quiet yet powerful photography, where the collection speaks for itself against a minimal backdrop.

Many long-established brands struggle to stay relevant, but Davis is the exception, currently acing the luxury game and making sure that Ferragamo stays at the tip of your tongue.
