Get ready for excitement - Guy Ritchie, the stylistic director behind the modern Sherlock Holmes movies starring Robert Downey Jr., is in negotiations to work with Disney for a live-action adaptation of Aladdin. Additionally, Dan Lin who worked on the same Sherlock Holmes franchise will be producing the live-action performance, which Disney has touted as an ambitious and non-traditional take on the classic 1992 film.

Backed by Dan Lin's company, Lin Pictures (which also produced the Lego Movie), Jonathan Eirich formerly of DreamWorks will also be working as executive producer for the movie, and overseeing it for Lin Pictures.

John August wrote the script for the new live-action version, which has been reported to keep many of the musical elements of the original. However, the approach to one of the most major characters in Genie has not yet been determined, as Robin Williams' performance remains closely tied to the character.

The non-traditional aspect of Lin Pictures' take will also have the movie taking on a non-linear approach, which if you've seen any of the new Sherlock Holmes movies will be immediately recognized as an exciting innovation for the classic film.
