Contrary to the official Instagram feed, it’s not all sneaker drops and new collections in the HS office. Quite a bit of printed matter comes through our doors.

Some of the selections are paper imprints from our favorite brands or agencies, others are indie publications that have piqued our interest — all feature distinctive storytelling, even if it isn’t always straightforward. Sometimes we’re drawn to a particularly ardent piece of prose, other times it’s arresting photography or an unusual layout that makes us revisit an already-read page, sometimes it’s a combination of all three.

Every week we’ll be sharing a few of the volumes that have found a permanent home on our office shelves or in the living spaces of our writers and editors.

Highsnobiety Magazine Issue 13

The theme of Highsnobiety Magazine Issue 13 is Independence. At its core, independence is about self-reliance, individualism and thinking for oneself. Embodying so many facets of our culture, we chose four distinct cover subjects for the issue - a rapper, a pop star, a fashion designer and an actor turned streetwear entrepreneur - all of whom exemplify the issue's theme in their own way.

Cover stars include Haider Ackermann, Zayn Malik, Young Thug and Edison Chen.

The Hedonist Post Issue 05

Segmented into four NSFW editorials, The Hedonist Post is a limited photography magazine. The fifth issue features artistic nude photo galleries of Melanie Paul and Valerie Struthoff shot by Paul Ripke, Bridie Holiday shot by Max Motel and Anna Tkachenko shot by Bob Sala. The issue is also accompanied by a set of centerfold-style posters.

The Non-Issue September 2016

Published by adidas, The Non-Issue is a project inspired by the independent spirit of DIY zines. As Vogue and the biggest titles in fashion unveil their own September issues - typically the most impactful volume of the year - adidas endeavours to do something entirely different. Scrapping the idea of a cover star in favor of showcasing emerging creatives like underground artist Gaika and photographer Campbell Addy, the 28-page issue will be distributed alongside the Fall/Winter 2016 issue of Dazed.

Oki-Ni Volume 02

Presenting a meld of art and fashion, UK retailer Oki Ni serves up its second physical magazine for Fall 2016. Clocking in at 80 pages, the issue reflects the tastes and brands of the store itself, including a fall guide to sneakers, a retrospective of fashion house Lanvin, an interview with the founders of London's Afropunk festival, and much more.

Shoes Up Issue 51

The 51st issue of longstanding publication Shoes Up provides a look at the crossroad between sneaker culture and graffiti. While based in France, the issue provides a broader survey of Europe, including short travel blurbs on Milan and Porto, and getting to know some of the creative individuals bringing local scenes to prominence. Through the magazine's full 162 pages, readers will find compelling photography paired with insightful sneaker journalism.
