Sun Mu is the pseudonym of a North Korean political pop artist and defector whose work pokes a paintbrush in the eye of the oppressive DPRK regime. Translating to "No Boundaries," Sun Mu is the subject of a documentary produced in partnership with Liberty in North Korea, a nonprofit that helps North Koreans escape their pariah state.
Titled I am Sun Mu, the film documents the build up to Sun Mu's exhibition in China, and tells the story of his art, his defection from North Korea, and the dangers he faces not only because of his escape, but because he devotes his talents and life to striking back at the regime in the best way that he knows.
After touring the film festival circuit over the course of the first half of 2016, I am Sun Mu is now available for purchase via iTunes. Watch the trailer above and head over to the film's official site to find out more.
