Jay Electronica‘s debut album, A Written Testimony, dropped last week. And while most fans were excited, not everyone was pleased. Over the weekend, Joe Budden took to his podcast to criticize the album, sparking beef with Electronica.

On Saturday’s episode, Budden shared his dislike for JAY-Z‘s heavy presence on the project. “I hate this album. I hate those beats. I hate how their two voices sound together. As a rapper, I’m telling you, Jay Electronica got smacked around by JAY-Z.”

Not long after the episode aired, fans reacted to Budden’s comments on Twitter. One fan tweeted: “Joe Budden hasn’t dropped a classic in his life and he’s critiquing Jay Electronica and Hov?” The tweet made its way to Electronica, who tagged The Joe Budden Podcast co-host Rory and shared a clip of DaBaby saying “Aye, fuck it.” Soon after, Budden responded to Electronica’s tweet. “I never got absolutely mopped around on my own project either… @ me, not Rory.”

The Roc Nation rapper then discredited Budden’s music altogether. “I never heard your albums bro. May Allah bless your career as a journalist.” To which Budden replied: “I took you off yours, and it’s a Hov mixtape now… Peace be unto you as well King.”

As the Twitter beef unfolded, one fan took the time to dig up some archive footage of the two being friendly with each other. In the video, Electronica can be heard complimenting Budden on his music career, and even hinting at a collab together.
