Netflix continues to promote the next episode of David Letterman‘s new show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, welcoming special guest JAY-Z. Yesterday we got a glimpse at the installment as Jigga dished on Snoop Dogg and Eminem’s rap talents, as today we find the hip-hop legend discussing his mother’s recent coming out.

JAY insists that he had known his mom, Gloria Carter, was gay for some time, but they had never actually had the conversation until eight months ago. The following day, Hov took to the studio to address his mom’s situation, recording “Smile” from 4:44.

“I mean, I really cried. That’s a real story,” JAY-Z told Letterman. “I cried because I was so happy for her that she was free.”
