Last month, Lolo Zouaï warned everyone that she was ready to make major moves in 2019. During our in-depth interview with the R&B singer, she hinted at an exciting feature that was in the works. Today, Zouaï revealed a special collaboration with Blood Orange called “Jade” along with a dreamy accompanying visual.
In a press release, she explained how “Jade” explores the “string between beauty and pain.” The Nick Harwood-directed video was shot at the original Ocean’s 11 house in Los Angeles. “Jade” is featured on Zouaï’s newly released double A-side Ocean Beach along with the self-produced track “Lose Myself.” Both songs are tributes to her hometown of San Francisco and come out of a moment of deep self-reflection.
“As my career continues to progress, I want to make sure that I don’t lose sight of why I started making music,” she said. “Growing up I’d spend a lot of time at Ocean Beach thinking and writing lyrics. I needed to remind myself that I used to be in my bedroom producing, wondering how I was gonna get my music out there. In the music industry it’s easy to feel jaded and lose the passion that made you want to start in the first place.”
