Marija Milanković is a Serbian graphic designer turned painter based in Belgrade. Working mainly in acrylic on canvas, some of her most distinctive works depict A-list celebs like Jay-Z and Biggie Smalls in absurd, everyday situations that she might find herself in in her home city.
In one, Beyoncé stares through the window of a crowded bus, in another JAY-Z stands behind a market stall with a stack of potatoes and other vegetables piled up in front of him. She does this to humanize them, scrubbing away the layers of glamour that naturally come attached to celebrity status, reminding us of the everyday struggle that hides behind catchy rhymes.
