The latest artist to grace NPR’s infamous Tiny Desk Concert is singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, Masego. His five-song jam session served up jazzy and soulful realness and was entertainment gold, reminiscent of jazz entertainers of old.
The 25-year-old kicked off his set with comedian Lorenzo Cromwell, better known as Renny, impersonating the musician on a miniature toy saxophone. Masego promptly chased off Renny and took his rightful place in front of the mic.
Backed by a live band of Jon Curry on drums and keys and saxophone manned by Dan Foster, alongside bassist Maxwell Hunter, guitarist Melanie Faye, and vocal accompaniment by Lex Nelson, the musician delivered live renditions of his records “Tadow“, “Nayhoo”, “Queen Tings”, “Black Love” and “I Do Everything.” Nonchalantly showing off his vocal chops and smooth sax skills, Masego reminded us that he really can do anything.
