Nike's Smoky AF1 Came Straight off the Grill
Nike has been steadily changing the narrative surrounding the all-black Air Force 1 sneaker. With textural upgrades and threaded Swoosh enhancements, Nike's darker AF1 sneaker is on the up and up.
See, where the iconic all-white AF1 is the stuff of legend, inky AF1 sneakers have been slower in their rise to the top. Crisp Air Force 1 sneakers are generationally GOATED, sure.
But thanks to some elevated materials and creative liberties where the Swoosh is concerned, dark-sided AF1 sneakers are building a sturdy legacy all their own.
In the case of the "Black/Dark Smoke Grey" AF1, these upgrades take shape in the form of a charcoal leather upper that plays well with dark suede paneling and a knitted gray Swoosh that brings a touch of texture to the blacked-out sneaker.
Available on the Nike website for $125, this smoky AF1 isn't the only swarthy Air Force 1 working to put this particular hue on the map in a major way.
Recently, with the help of Swarovski, Nike iced-out the iconic AF1 with a crystal-covered Swoosh and tongue. What's sweeter than blinging out an AF1 with some world-famous crystals?
But the sneaker-related romance doesn't end there. The Swoosh also kitted up another luxe AF1 just for Valentine's Day. Instead of shiny stones, though, the "Valentine's Day Triple Black" wears a full suede upper, adorned with tiny tonal hearts. This Cupid-struck sneaker isn't totally free of jewelry. It also wears a heart-shaped Nike charm as well. How sweet.
When it comes to the Swoosh, having a black heart isn't such a bad thing.
