Pitti Uomo, Italy’s most prestigious menswear trade show, has confirmed that OFF-WHITE and J.W.Anderson will join the next edition in June 2017 to showcase their SS18 collections. What is Pitti, you ask? First and foremost, it’s a place of business. It's a four-day, market-facing event in which retailers, buyers and editors all come together to view upcoming collections.

The event is followed with church-like devotion by a flock of international industry impresarios, all eager to enjoy Pitti's stellar curation of directional, global fashion talent. OFF-WHITE and J.W.Anderson join the likes of Raf Simons, Gosha Rubchinskiy and Kenzo in a recent list of acclaimed guest designers who have all shown at Pitti Uomo.

The announcement is yet another solid affirmation that the lines between streetwear and luxury fashion have now blurred beyond recognition, given the fact that Abloh's carefully crafted stylistic street aesthetic will present alongside the traditional tailoring titans of Florence. We want to say it’s an unprecedented move, but it’s actually entirely predictable. We’ve already shouted that streetwear and high fashion are one and the same, and Abloh has become something of an industry darling in recent seasons.

In an interview with BoF, Abloh says, “I'm honored that Pitti recognized the work that I was doing in Paris and want to give me a platform. There's an opportunity such as this one to take a traditional platform and offer a new take on it.” OFF-WHITE is set to show in Florence on June 15 and will sit out Paris Fashion Week.

Similarly, London wunderkind J.W.Anderson will also make his Italian debut and will show his next menswear collection at the event. “I'm honored to have been asked to show at Pitti Uomo,” says Jonathan Anderson. “Florence’s aesthetic is beautiful, which will lend itself to be the perfect backdrop for the collection."

Despite being busy helming Spanish fashion house Loewe, as well as his mainline womenswear collection, the Northern Irish designer has managed to maintain his cult credibility for meshing future-oriented silhouettes with emotional impact and an undisputed sartorial skill.
