[UPDATE] May 31, 2019 11:40 a.m. EST Following rumors, Deadline reports that Robert Pattinson has been confirmed as the next Batman, as the 33-year-old actor will star in director Matt Reeves’ new The Batman trilogy. The publication points out that the decision was between Pattinson and Tolkien lead, Nicholas Hoult.
Pattinson’s contract to play Batman in Reeves’ upcoming film will likely include options for at least two additional movies. The first picture is expected to go into production later this year, with Reeves directing and Dylan Clark (Planet of the Apes films) set to produce.

Robert Pattinson might be the next Batman. According to Variety, Pattinson is in negotiations to take the titular role in Warner Bros.’ upcoming movie The Batman. Sources quoted in the article say that “it’s not yet a done deal” but that Pattison is the top choice for the role.
As we explained earlier this year after the Ben Affleck era came to a close, Pattinson is a great choice to play the brooding billionaire. The 33-year-old rose to prominence playing Edward Cullen in Twilight ( a role which he clearly hated) but since then has proven his acting skills in movies such as Good Time, The Rover, Maps to the Stars, and most recently High Life.
The Matt Reeves-directed The Batman is expected to hit theaters on June 25, 2021, with pre-production set to start this summer. Reeves is best known for directing the last two Planet of the Apes sequels.
