Skepta and Nike have joined forces on the fifth and latest iteration of their popular sneaker collaborations. This time, the London MC has put his own spin on the Air Max Tailwind 5, as teased on his Twitter account. Following the teaser, Highsnobiety is giving you an exclusive look at Skepta and Nike’s upcoming sneaker.

The Skepta x Nike Air Max Tailwind 5 features a black and blue, marbled pattern on the base of the upper, with black overlays running across it. Reflective detailing is present on the tongue and around the ankle collar, while “SK Air” branding is on the tongue and heel of the shoe.

Skepta has worked on 2017’s Air Max 97 Ultra, 2018’s Air Max 97 BW and Air Max Deluxe, and 2019’s Shox TL previously. Each chapter of his work with Nike has been a looker and inspired by different parts of his career or life. This latest project, however, is by far the most eye-catching.

What the Internet Is Saying: Instagram’s sneaker enthusiasts are in love with this pair of Skepta x Nike Air Max Tailwind 5s. @tonware said it best when he commented: “I feel like these will be one of those kicks I’ll pass on but then regret not purchasing it a year later.”

What We’re Saying: The marbled effect on the upper gives off strong Nike Air Kukini vibes. That subtle reference alone makes the collaborative sneaker a must-have and puts it straight to the top of our cop list.

The project’s actual inspiration is the concept of creative rebirth — represented by the butterfly and its metamorphosis. The blue and black marbled pattern is actually a nod to the patterns found on butterfly wings. The reflective, iridescent detailing on the ankle collar and heel are a nod to Skepta’s 2019 album, Ignorance Is Bliss.

The Skepta x Nike Air Max Tailwind 5 is set to be released at Nike SNKRS and select retailers on April 2. A tracksuit and bucket hat are also set to be dropping alongside the sneaker — as has been the case with previous Skepta x Nike drops. Check it out below.
