Highsnobiety

In case you weren’t in attendance, or haven’t seen the photos yet, StockX and Highsnobiety teamed up to throw down an iconic series of events during this year’s fashion week.

From New York to Paris, we supplied the sneakers and sounds, and our esteemed list of attendees served the looks. In NYC, local staples like puffers, varsity jackets, and chunky boots took center stage. Over in The City of Love, we peeped more structured tailoring, all-black looks, and knitwear at the forefront of displays.

No matter which signature style guests were donning for the night, two looks stood out above the rest (and that’s even considering Julia Fox, who came in an all-denim dress, and Jaime Xie who wore a mechanical jacket.)

Vashtie, our DJ in New York City, and photographer Paul Binam, one of our VIPs in Paris, came dressed. The common denominator? They were decked out in head-to-toe StockX pieces, of course.

To get more insight into how they went about choosing their respective pieces for each party, we caught up with our two honorable guests to talk about their personal highlights from the events, the sneakers they’d defend till the end, and the diverse looks that StockX offers up.

How did you go about choosing the fit for the NYFW HS x StockX party?

I wanted to do something natural to me, but also what I think represents Highsnobiety and StockX – a classic tomboy streetwear look.

Besides your fit, what was your highlight of the night at the NYFW HS x StockX party?

Everyone in attendance was not only dressed to impress, but they were also eager to have a good time. It made for a pleasant evening!

Which piece from StockX are you consistently most excited to wear?

This Nate Lowman Supreme Vest that my husband gave me for my birthday last year. I know Nate, but I’m also a fan of his bullet series. Most people see it and assume it’s a sort of flower print, but if you look at it long enough you see what it really is.

What was your process for creating the setlist for the NYFW HS x StockX party at Virgin Hotels?

I wanted to play all the music that we love, specifically 2000s throwbacks, Afro Beat, and all the hot new jams from Ice Spice and more. I also like to throw in unexpected music from people like Tame Impala, Robyn, and even Celia Cruz.

You’ve been DJing parties for over a decade now, what about DJ still excites you and makes you look forward to nights like those?

It always thrills me when I play a certain song and see the crowd light up. It’s a bit of a high. My goal is always to uplift people and have them leave feeling better than they did when they arrived.

Tell us how your DJ style complements your fashion style.

I’m known for doing a good throwback set and my style is rooted in the 90s/00s. Also, I love hip-hop and black music/culture, and streetwear was all born from that. My fashion style and DJ style are a direct representation of those worlds.

When was the first time you remember hearing about StockX or using the app to get a pair? Are there any sneakers or pieces on the app that you’re currently eyeing?

I feel like I knew about StockX early on, but once I knew about it, it was a wrap. I don’t like shopping in real life, so it’s nice to be able to shop for the things you like on the app without the hassle or worry of it being sold out. It’s just a wonderful service that I don’t mind paying extra for when it relieves the stress of shopping. I’m currently eyeing many pieces from the latest Aimé Leon Dore collection that sold out the day it launched.

What's the favorite sneaker, colorway, or collab you will always defend and love forever (besides your Vashtie 2’s)?

I don’t think I need to defend it, but Aleali May’s Millennial Pink will forever be iconic. The color represents so much more to me because I grew up at a time when sneaker brands would “shrink it and pink it” when it came to offering female sneaker options. They would make the sneaker smaller and add pink to make it “appealing” to girls/women, which was irritating. But now…an all-pink Jordan designed by a legendary woman like Aleali is a slap in the face to the antiquated approach that sneaker executives took. As a tomboy, I spent a lifetime rejecting pink by any means. I think there are a lot of women who felt about pink the way I did, but now it can be embraced by women on their own terms.

Also, my favorite pair will forever be the Black Cement Jordan 3’s. If I need to defend that - then I’m ready to go to war!

How did you go about choosing the fit for the PFW HS x StockX party?

I chose to opt for comfort and colors for the pieces in my fit – it was so cold outside in Paris!

When you go to craft the perfect fit, what elements do you look for?

I look for a good color flow. I want to tell a story with elements in my fit. It can be 90s vibes, or draw on old money aesthetics, or sometimes even rock ‘n roll vibes. I don’t have a personal style. I have a fashion mood. I dress according to whatever mood I have in the morning.

Which piece from StockX are you consistently most excited to wear and why?

I love New Balance and I’m dying for the JJJJOUND collab, the colorway is just perfect – muted colors, earthy tones, it has everything I love.

What element of photography excited you most to keep picking up the camera?

Going out and not knowing what kind of scene I am going to witness. I love that new feeling of capturing an instant of people’s lives, and my life too.

Tell us how your photography style influences your fashion style.

I love taking photos because I have a variety of shooting styles. My favorite is film photography, and because I love everything old school, my fashion has that vibe too.

What’s your dream photo setup (subject, environment, equipment, etc.)?

Me, at home, in the summertime, at the end of the day right around golden hour. I’d use my Mamiya 7 and Leica M11, to shoot ordinary moments that will look straight out of another time due to it being on film.

In your opinion, what is StockX doing differently in the fashion industry?

StockX allows people who enjoy a seamless shopping experience (like me) or people who really want a pair of sneakers that are sold out everywhere to have a better shopping experience. At least you know you can find your dream item there.

What's the favorite sneaker, colorway, or collab you will always defend and love forever?

JJJJOUND x New Balance 990v3 “Olive x Black”. It’s just a beautiful sneaker and goes with everything. That’s my dream pair of sneakers.
