Surf brand RVCA launch their exclusive collection, the Blind Girl Surf Club, inspired by the friendship between artist and filmmaker Julian Schnabel and surfing legend Herbie Fletcher. Taking the Groucho Marx quote, “I wouldn’t wanna be a member of any club that would have me as a member," as its motto, the collection includes surfing staples: hoodies, board shorts, windbreakers, caps and T-shirts, emblazoned with either the club title or icon, and all in black.
The original club was conceived during one of Fletcher and Schnabel’s many surf trips over the years, first including just close friends and family before then expanding as a way to pay respects and include some of the sport’s legends, such as the late Andy Irons. These first members received a black surfboard emblazoned with the Blind Girl Surf Club emblem – part of a series of paintings by Schnabel in 2001 – as confirmation of their induction. Now RVCA are opening the club up to all the surfing community.
