In a more unusual collaboration, Levi’s Commuter has teamed up with tech giant Google and together they present the Levi’s Commuter x Jacquard by Google Trucker Jacket.
Coming Spring 2017, it’s the first ever smart garment with Google Jacquard technology woven in. Perfect for the city ride, your garment will now give you directions, information on nearby places, change your music, and answer calls. As a result, you stay seamlessly connected and your ride is actually safer.
Speaking at Google’s I/O last year when the project was first unveiled, Levi’s global head of product innovation, Paul Dillinger, said: “In our hyper-digital world, people constantly struggle to be physically present in their environment while maintaining a digital connection.” This trucker jacket is their solution to this problem – developed in a relatively short amount of time.
Multi-touch sensors are woven into the jacket using conductible thread that combines thin, metallic alloys with natural and synthetic materials like cotton, polyester, or silk, all helping to turn your Levi’s trucker jacket into a wearable computing device. Functional and fashionable at the same time, this might be one of the first occasions that practical technology has been built into a functional and completely wearable piece of clothing.
The Levi’s Commuter x Jacquard by Google Trucker Jacket is going into beta testing this fall with a consumer launch planned for Spring 2017.
