Despite his assured status as one of the most polarizing figures in basketball history, 11-time NBA All-Star Allen Iverson was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame last week; giving props to the likes of Jadakiss and Biggie Smalls in the kind of idiosyncratic and emotionally charged speech we’ve come to expect from the former 76’ers shooting guard. Looking back over said career, if there was one constant to match Iverson’s penchant for controversy, then it was the trainers on his feet: the signature Reebok Question.
To pay homage and celebrate Iverson’s inauguration, New Jersey retailers Packer Shoes is now launching a special edition of the Question via Reebok, dubbed the “Curtain Call.” Drawing inspiration from the original Question colorways, red and black suede is included on the toe and ankle, along with the classic blue ice sole. Pebbled black Horween leather then features on the upper — described (perhaps, euphemistically) as a tribute to the “flavor” Iverson has brought to the NBA throughout the course of his career.
Full grain leather lace loops, metal lace tips and accents and inner linings are added as additional touches, with “A” and “I” initials superseding the numeral “3” insignia which traditionally features on the heel. “Bubba Chuck” graphics are also incorporated on the insole — a nod to Allen’s childhood nickname.
Only 500 pairs of the trainer are available, and they drop exclusively at Reebok’s NYC location in Union Square on September 16; priced at $175. If you plan on copping, then make sure you look your best that morning, as renowned photographer Gary Land will also be on location.
