In the first episode since Donald Trump became President-Elect of the United States, The Simpsons took the opportunity to express their regret for predicting a Trump presidency. As mentioned previously, the long-standing television series called for Trump to become president some 16 years back.

During the opening credits for last night’s episode of The Simpsons, Bart can be seen writing on the blackboard, “BEING RIGHT SUCKS.”

The scene of course refers to the show’s writers predicting the aforementioned Trump presidency.

According to the 2000s episode writer Dan Greaney, Trump was just the right comedic fit at the time, as the crew was looking for a celebrity name that would sound slyly absurdist.

Greaney disclosed that Trump “seems like a ‘Simpsons’-esque figure — he fits right in there, in an over-the-top way…. He seemed kind of lovable in the old days, in a blowhard way.”

Earlier this year, The Simpsons writer insisted, “But now that he’s running for president, I see that in a much darker way.”

Not NYC, not LA.
