Where the runway meets the street

One of Italy’s most famous gardens is about to get the Gucci treatment. The Alessandro Michele-helmed fashion house will present its Cruise 2018 collection at Palatina Gallery in Florence’s Pitti Palace on May 29. It will mark the first fashion show ever staged at the iconic site, applying consistency to Michele’s love for scoping fashion firsts at historic venues.

Last year, Gucci hosted the first catwalk show in London’s Westminster Abbey last year, and another show at the iconic Dia Art Foundation in New York City.

Given the success of Gucci’s previous show in London’s most famous Gothic church, there’s no doubt the brand’s Cruise 2018 show will make the most of one of Florence’s most culturally-rich locations.

The presentation seems to be a part of a bigger “cultural project” between Gucci, the Uffizi Gallery museum, and the city of Florence, according to WWD. The storied Italian fashion house is reportedly donating €2 million (approximately $2.2 million) to help restore the city’s iconic Boboli Gardens, which the Palatina Gallery overlooks, over the next three years.
