Here is the latest entry in our partnership with COLORS BERLIN, an online music channel that aims to break down the barriers of the musical landscape. ALL COLORS NO GENRES is their main mission – from hip-hop to indie, electronica, R&B and pop, COLORS BERLIN allows artists to present themselves and their work in a contemporary way. We’ve teamed up with them on a series of video shorts in which artists are invited to perform one of their own tracks in the COLORS studio.
The star of Little Simz has been burning steadily brighter over the past few years, and it’s not hard to see why. The London emcee is, first and foremost, fierce as hell. Her wordy bars land on her beats with a ferocity that is unmatched among her peers. Yet she is also able to pare it down and glide seamlessly over a track, her natural cadences enmeshing with the production flawlessly.
No better example of this latter aspect of her rapping can be found than her performance of “Backseat” for COLORS Berlin. Released earlier this year as a standalone single, it comes hot on the heels of her excellent 2016 album Stillness in Wonderland. Stream it below via Spotify.
