Editor’s Notes: A-COLD-WALL*’s Samuel Ross has teamed up with Converse, officially unveiling a two-sneaker collaboration that was initially teased at London Fashion Week SS20 in June 2019. The collection comprises a reworked Chuck Taylor All Star, which features an oversized lugged sole and hard-wearing material updates, as well as a suede and leather ERX. In addition to the two sneakers, ACW* and Converse have teamed up on a range of apparel.

The collection is inspired by Ross’ frequent trips to the Caribbean, where Ross would take his Chuck Taylors on hikes and mountain trails. “So, the experience of my childhood affected this idea of changing the All-Star into something that is more hard-wearing,” says Ross.

This idea of making the Chuck Taylor more rugged also plays into Ross’ ambitions with regards to sustainability. “For me this collaboration again was about extending the life cycle of a product and that in turn supports this idea of less consumption,” Ross tells Highsnobiety. “So again, it comes down to this idea of really, really well-considered product.

“For example, the timeline on this collaboration or part one of this collaboration has been almost three years in the making now. We've taken our time to make sure that the product quality is there and that in itself is a sustainable practice.”

Look for A-COLD-WALL*’s collaboration with Converse to drop online first at ACW* on September 14, before hitting select retailers on September 17.
