In honor of World Emoji Day (yes, that’s a thing), Apple just unveiled its newest emojis arriving this fall. In a statement, the tech giant revealed the emojis bring “even more diversity” and “fun” additions to iOS users’ keyboards.
Notably, an update to the Holding Hands emoji, typically used to represent couples and relationships, sees Apple pursue even more inclusivity. With up to 75 possibilities, users will now be able to select any combination of skin tone and gender. Apple also honors previous proposals to introduce disability-themed emojis, with all-new emojis like a guide dog, an ear with a hearing aid, wheelchairs, a prosthetic arm and a prosthetic leg.
“Celebrating diversity in all its many forms is integral to Apple’s values and these new options help fill a significant gap in the emoji keyboard,” the company explained in the statement. That’s one small step for emojis, one giant leap for mankind.
On a lighter note, Apple also unveiled a series of emoji we didn’t realize we needed in our lives. Did someone say falafel emoji? Click through the gallery above to see the full preview of the new emojis coming in fall.
