Balenciaga never fails to shock and delight with its extreme takes on classic dad shoes.

From the 10-storey tall sneakers to spiked ski shoes, the brand knows how to make a statement. And somehow, it continues to push the envelope of weird sneakers further — introducing, the Balenciaga Reptile sneaker.

A bizarre blend of designs, the Reptile is a strange-looking shoe; even by Balenciaga’s standards. If a Y2K ASICS running shoe and a super pointy dress shoe had a love child, you can imagine it looking a bit like this.

Naturally, when the Reptile was first unveiled online, people were quick to comment on its unique build ("This them shoes the Wicked Witch of the East was wearing when Dorothy crushed her with a house," being a highlight of the online comments section). However, now the sneaker is available to buy and things have gotten even wilder.

Available on the Balenciaga website, the shoes slithered online with the option of an all-black build or gray with multi-colored paneling. And the pointy dad shoe sets you back $1,890.

Four-figure price tags are nothing new for Balenciaga footwear, everything from the luxury house costs a pretty penny. But this shoe is at the top of the list of most expensive Balenciaga sneakers, seconded only by a rhinestone-covered Triple S.

While I can appreciate the novelty of weird sneakers as much as any man, almost $2K is a hefty price tag for a shoe made of polyurethane and polyester.

There will undoubtedly be Balenciaga fanatics and eccentric dressers willing to spend big for a dad shoe like no other, but I’ll be sticking with something a little more conventional (and cheap).
