Warning: spoilers for Game of Thrones season eight, episode one ahead.
Kit Harington has revealed exactly how his character felt after learning about his true parentage. The Game of Thrones actor told EW, “If Jon could go back in time and say, ‘Whatever you’re about to say, don’t tell me,’ he would. He’d happily be in ignorance.”
In the season eight premiere, which aired last night on HBO, Samwell Tarley told Jon Snow that his parents were Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, making him Aegon Targaryen and the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. It also unfortunately means Jon slept with his aunt, Daenerys Targaryen, something the audience has known since last season, making Jon’s reaction understandable.
In the episode, Jon asks Samwell, “You’re telling me my father lied to me? My father, the most honorable man I’ve known my entire life, you’re saying that?”
Harington, adding further insight into his character’s reaction, told EW, “He doesn’t want that fucking information. He doesn’t want to know. He has no ambition for the throne. He’s never wanted that. The end of the world might be coming soon, but at least he’s in love with somebody and knows who he is, and then comes this sledgehammer.”
In other news, we sat down with Kerby Jean-Raymond of Pyer Moss to discuss his newest release with Reebok and why it’s so hard to design a basketball shoe that looks as good as it performs.
