Will Smith recently sat down for a rare interview with TIDAL’s Rap Radar podcast. On location in Budapest, Smith discussed his planned music comeback, winning the first Rap Grammy Award, his appreciation for today’s hip-hop talent, including Drake, Kanye West and Meek Mill. He also revealed JAY-Z’s deep enthusiasm for the time he slapped a Russian faux-reporter who kissed him during a Men in Black III red carpet interview.

As you can see in the clip above, Will Smith recounts the aftermath of a red carpet prank pulled by Vitalii Sediuk back in 2012. “I get back and I’m pissed that somebody thinks because you’re famous, they get to do whatever they want to do to you,” he recalls. “So I’m in my room and I had ten urgent messages from JAY-Z.”

“So I call him and say, ‘What’s up?’ He sounds winded,” Smith laughed, imitating Jay’s urgent voice. “He said, ‘I just saw the video of you slapping the dude in Russia. I just want you to know you’ll never make a better piece of entertainment. It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.’ He said, ‘Me and Bey, we got a show tonight, and we’re thinking about cancelling it and just staying in and watching you slap this dude.’”

Check out the original footage of Will Smith slapping the reporter below, and the full Rap Radar episode with Will Smith afterward. The JAY-Z part comes in at the 7:12 mark.
