Jimmy Kimmel has tearfully opened up about the complications following the birth of his son 10 days ago.

Before launching into the emotional monologue at the beginning of his late night show, Kimmel assured viewers that the story had a happy ending despite being incredibly difficult to watch.

Kimmel's son, Billy, was born on April 21 but was quickly rushed into emergency care after it was discovered he wasn't getting enough oxygen due to a congenital heart defect. He underwent open-heart surgery three days later, which Kimmel describes as the “longest three hours of my life.”

After profusely thanking all the nurses and doctors, Kimmel encourages people to donate to the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles where Billy received care.

He then stresses the importance of all Americans uniting together to ensure everyone has access to healthcare, saying "no parent should have to decide if they can afford to save their child's life. It just shouldn't happen." Watch the clip above.
