Nike has unveiled its 2018-19 City Edition NBA uniforms, taking inspiration from the history and culture of each team’s city on every design.
The Minnesota Timberwolves “Purple Rain” uniform pays homage to local legend Prince, with detailing referencing the late musician’s tour outfits and his Paisley Park home and studio. The “Wolves” text on the front also recalls the graphics used on the Purple Rain album and movie artwork.
The Brooklyn Nets uniform shouts out the Notorious B.I.G. with COOGI sweater-inspired detailing around the edges, and the Oklahoma City Thunder uniform features design elements inspired by the state’s Native American heritage. The Denver Nuggets’ colorful top brings back the rainbow skyline used on the team’s jerseys in the ’80s and early ’90s.
