Fresh out of the box, Nike’s Air VaporMax silhouette is already an impressive feat of design and engineering. The VaporMax sole mold is composed of over 39,000 components, making it in some ways more complex than a high-powered car engine.

Chinese customizer Ziv is pushing the sneaker even further, taking a DIY approach by adding zips, toggles and fasteners to VaporMax releases from 2017 like the “Be True” colorway from May. The resulting kicks look like something from the mind of ACRONYM designer Errolson Hugh.
