This Wednesday, January 31, skywatchers will witness a rare treat, as a Super Blue Blood Moon, a total lunar eclipse and a supermoon all at the same time -- will be visible from the U.S. for the first time since 1866.
Luxury watchmakers Omega will be celebrating the lunar event with a special edition Speedmaster timepiece, which already has a close and historic connection to space. Dubbed the "Blue Side of the Moon" Speedmaster, the creation is a vibrant blue ceramic timepiece that includes a Moonphase indication in the brand's signature liquid metal material.
The hands and indexes of the watch are also coated in Super-LumiNova for a distinct glow, similar to the captivating effect of the Super Blue Blood Moon, which will cause the lunar surface to appear 14% brighter in the night sky. Other notable details include a Co-Axial Master Chronometer Caliber 9904 movement, 18K white gold accents and a rich blue leather strap.
Pricing for this Speedmaster is listed at $13,100 USD, and for additional details, head on over directly to Omega's website.
Also, to see the rare Super Blue Blood Moon phenomenon live, NASA will be streaming the event starting 5:30 a.m. EST on Wednesday, January 31, online.
