Netflix

Netflix just dropped Jake Gyllenhaal’s latest movie and the internet can’t handle it. Part satire and part horror, Velvet Buzzsaw takes place in the LA art world where Gyllenhaal plays a harsh art critic. A new collection of paintings by a mysterious deceased artist suddenly become the next big thing — until key figures in the art scene start showing up dead.

Directed by Nightcrawler‘s Dan Gilroy, the movie stars Toni Collette, Zawe Ashton, John Malkovich, and Stranger Things’ Natalie Dyer. Velvet Buzzsaw first debuted at Sundance where it received mixed reviews and a 67 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, but on Twitter, it’s another story. The horror satire has spawned hilarious art memes, while an almost nude Gyllenhaal showcased the collective thirst of the internet.
