From teasing a reinterpretation of IKEA’s iconic FRAKTA bag and a variety of rugs marked by Virgil Abloh’s signature quotation motif last June, IKEA and Virgil Abloh have officially revealed their collaborative partnership in a live stream from an undisclosed location in New York.

Showcasing concepts of an upcoming furniture/accessory collection that is “designed for Millennials,” Virgil emphasized that the offerings will be “affordable” and retail at IKEA’s typical price points.

He started off revealing a new triangular doorstop design that can be attached to a Abloh-designed chair, which challenges the original use of the everyday tool as well as providing an aesthetically pleasing, multi-purpose design.

Virgil then reveals his new cabinet design with a purpose of “curating your junk drawer,” Virgil explains. Featuring an all glass build with bold red handles shaped like nails, the cabinet gives a a transparent look at everything inside putting your junk on full display.

Lastly, he shows off his popular “BLUE” and “KEEP OFF” hand-shaved rug, previously teased on Instagram. The goal for these were to question what a rug is used for. Yes, they can be used an ordinary rug, but Abloh wants them to have a deeper art aesthetic to live on your wall instead of your floor.

All products on display are currently in prototype stage. Today’s reveal will be used by Virgil as a way to gain feedback to further advance his designs, with possibilities for acrylic as a material choice as well as the wood on display.

More on Virgil, here’s the rumored release date of the OFF-WHITE x Nike Air Jordan 1 “UNC”.
