British artist Oliver Payne has teamed up with streetwear label Cav Empt on a self-directed short titled The Clothes Themselves. The video originally premiered during an installation at Milan’s Spazio Maiocchi art venue this June.
The video, which follows Cav Empt’s Fall/Winter ’18 collection, delves deep into the brand’s ethos, exploring the Japanese label’s origins, morals and future plans in relation to Italian philosopher Riccardo Manzotti’s “Spread Mind” concept.
Manzotti’s belief is that consciousness is a physical thing and as such, Payne further explores the sentiment: “Where does Cav Empt happen? It is not inside your brain. If we open your brain, we will not find Cav Empt.”
The short is accompanied by a Jackson Bailey-scored soundtrack and can be viewed via NOWNESS below.
