As Takashi Murakami is preparing for his first exhibition in Japan in 14 years, Pharrell recently had the pleasure of visiting the contemporary artist’s studio to get a first look at his “The 500 Arhats.” The pair of creatives have not only been collaborators over the years, but they are also friends and devoted fans to each other’s work.

Before checking out the elaborate painting, P kicked things off by trying on some of Murakami’s wearable designs. They then ventured on to view the insane 100-meter painting — partially inspired by the natural disaster that took place in Japan in 2011 — that will be on display at Japan’s Mori Art Museum from October 30 to March 6, 2016.
