For the fall and winter season, we enlisted New York's Moe Adams of cycle crew, label and blog I.AM.WE.ARE, to road test Levi's Commuter cycling collection across the city. From Brooklyn, Adams' blog is quickly becoming a reference guide to some of the key people in scene – both in the US and around the world. He's also a key member of Brooklyn's God & Famous label, one of the best indie cycling brands to come out of the US in recent years.
Equipped with a fixed-gear Cinelli, Adams' ride essentials reads like a checklist of the best street-ready cycling apparel at the moment: T-Level's camo rucksack, the new God & Famous Smoke Shell, Spy Optic's shades, Levi's Commuter 511 slim fit black canvas trousers and black Commuter Trucker Jacket, along with Supreme's legendary Neil Young tee thrown in for kicks.
Designed by cyclists for cyclists, the Levi's Commuter collection is crafted from the label's signature Commuter Endurance Fabric. Stronger, with increased stretch for comfort and water-repellancy for durability, we focussed in on the 511 slim fit black canvas trouser. These come in a sleeker cut, with an added u-lock holder on the rear and reflective elements on the cuff for statement, safety and no-nonsense practicality.
Meanwhile, the Trucker Jacket does what you expect a jacket should do, except better thanks to details added for the urban rouleur: with a drop back hem for protection and a conceiled zip-out hood, the jacket's rear also features discrete reflective 3M Scotchlite details that become prominent with minimum light, as well as back vents for breathability.
