MM6, the diffusion off-shoot of Maison Margiela’s mainline might be considered an afterthought among most industry insiders, but the label’s latest outing for FW17 proved that its cash-cow of a sister label can indulge the quirks as much as its namesake line.
This season, showgoers could see T-shirts being silk-screen printed, and models nonchalantly scrolling the ‘gram in a waiting room, decked out in MMG’s boxy, XXL silhouettes and pattern cutters working away in a sewing room. Maybe it was the MM6 design team’s subtle way of proving there’s meticulous craft behind everything the famed design house does, but it certainly showed that the brand is consistently great at stringing out a collection of covetable, directional clothes.
Standouts include a glossy white puffer enveloped in a plastic sheet, red-cup heeled thigh-high booties and the recurring folky details across the entire collection made for some intriguing contrast.
