The World Video Game Hall of Fame (yes, it’s a thing) has announced its inductees for 2017, with Street Fighter II, Donkey Kong, Halo: Combat Evolved, and Pokémon Red and Green all cementing their place in folklore.
In a vote decided by the public, the games beat off stiff competition from other classics including Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat and Final Fantasy VII. The Museum praised the influence of Street Fighter II, citing how it paved the way for other combat titles such as Mortal Kombat and Tekken.
The Hall of Fame was established to “highlight the video games that have made an impact on the world,” meaning the above titles are all worthy inductees, as any 20-something who lost hours gaming with them in their childhood will attest.
