Gucci’s new collaboration started on Instagram. Alessandro Michele, the brand’s creative director, was browsing through his feed when he discovered British illustrator Angelica Hicks’s work, before reaching out to her to design an exclusive T-shirt collection for the brand.
Hicks is known for her tongue-in-cheek, girlish illustrations and her Gucci collection is no different. For the collaboration, the illustrator designed eleven different unisex T-shirts, with Gucci producing just one hundred of each style.
Each T-shirt comes in vintage-style metal box, featuring the same illustration as the garment inside and the tee itself is wrapped around miniature cardboard versions of the illustrations. In addition, each T-shirt will have a label detailing which number edition it is, similar to the “1/100” format found in most art prints.
To celebrate the collection’s launch, Gucci has revealed two murals in New York and Milan, as well as releasing a geo-location Snapchat filter, also designed by Hicks, that is available around the murals.
The collection will launch on May 25 exclusively at Gucci.com in Europe and the U.S..
