The third leg of the Mayweather vs. McGregor
pantomime media tour stopped off in NYC last night — and it was undoubtedly the most preposterous yet.
Both men ran through the by now expected gamut of insults, but it was a comment made by McGregor that caused outrage. After stirring anger by telling Mayweather to “dance for me, boy,” at the previous Las Vegas event, McGregor addressed the Brooklyn audience, saying: “All of the media seem to be saying I’m against black people… Do they not know I’m half black? I’m half black from the belly button down.”
It was a perplexing performance all round from McGregor, who lost the goodwill of the crowd after making the remark. He then attempted to rile Mayweather by calling 50 Cent “a bitch,” a puzzling comment considering the boxer and rapper had a massive falling out and haven’t been friendly in years.
Mayweather produced some theatrics of his own, showering McGregor in $1 bills. Eventually, both men ran out of insults and were understandably booed by the crowd.
Thankfully, the tour winds up in London tonight. The fight takes place on August 26.
