Where form meets function

With the iPhone X release right around the corner, we’ve put together a guide on how to cop in the least stressful method possible.

Set to be the most-hyped smartphone of 2017 and, with stock extremely limited in comparison to previous iPhone releases, being ready ahead of the release is half the battle.

The Basics

Price: $999 for 64GB & $1,149 for 256GB (for full-priced devices)

Colors: Silver / Space Gray

Preorder Date: Friday, October 27 at 12:01 a.m. PDT

Online Preorder: Apple.com

Apple Store App: App Store

Know What You Want

Before you do anything, decide exactly what you want from your iPhone X. Choose your color and, more importantly, the storage space you think you’ll need. 64GB is generally enough for the average consumer and, if all you do is scroll Instagram, browse the web and take photos, that will be enough for you, too.

If you like to save everything on your phone, listen to a lot of music and watch movies and TV shows on your device, then the 256GB option may be better suited to your needs.

Preparation Is Key

The Apple Store app is the easiest way to cop any of Apple’s new devices so this guide will focus on that method.

Download the Apple Store app on your device and make sure your Apple ID information is updated in your system settings. Go to iTunes and App Store > Apple ID > View Apple ID. The Apple Store app syncs login credentials and payment information from system settings, giving you a head start.

If you might be eligible for an upgrade through your carrier, check your status on Apple’s account status webpage. Upgrade information will be stored, ready for when you check out on Friday.

Selecting Your iPhone X

You can set up your preferences on the Apple Store app beforehand to save time.

Open the app and tap on the iPhone X banner. You can pick whether you want to replace the iPhone you’re on or if you just want to buy a new iPhone.

Select your color and capacity. Next, select a payment option, which may vary depending on your carrier. Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program and iPhone Payments are available to everyone, while you can also select a one-time payment.

Once done, click the heart at the top-right of the page to save your preferences for when the preorder goes live.

Buying Your iPhone X

When preorders go live on Friday, October 27 at 12:01 am Pacific or 3:01 am Eastern, open the app and navigate to your account. Once there, click on the saved iPhone X configuration and tap continue.

Just in case, have your carrier information ready, although the data fields should already be filled out.

Navigate to your bag and pay with Apple Pay or another credit card. Apple Pay is the fastest way to check out and will save you some time.

The Backup Plan

Of course, it’s always best to hedge your bets and try through multiple channels. So, while the Apple Store app is the easiest method to get your hands on the new iPhone X, trying it through the web browser on Apple’s site while you navigate the app can’t hurt either.

As always, keep your credit card details on hand or use Google Chrome’s autofill for that extra speed.

If all else fails, Apple has announced that its stores will have a limited quantity of product for walk-in customers, however, be ready to camp if you want to cop in store.
