Its unorthodox sneaker aesthetics have pitted the brand against industry leaders in the west, showing there is always a seat at the table for those that are pushing the needle forward.
Although mainline silhouettes such as the Sunchaser and Fury Ace have had no trouble causing a stir all their own, collaborations have become an important part of the brand's footwear output.
Alongside Soulland, Li-Ning has developed one of its most popular flagship sneakers with the Shadow, and by the looks of it, ACU's upcoming effort on the 50/50 will kickstart its foray into skateboarding.
The new silhouette is a first for both brands as ACU's debut sneaker collaboration and Li-Ning's first skate silhouette.
Traditional Chinese medicine has served as the point of inspiration for the sneaker's unique aesthetic, which features a parchment-like material that naturally tears away with wear, revealing a Li-Ning logo and a lined paper pattern below. Finishing off the look are touches of green throughout, a gum sole, and thick rope laces.
Could this be the start of Li-Ning's takeover of the world of skate shoes? Only time will tell.
