“I performed, produced, and mixed the entire thing myself,” he previously said in a press release. “I’m calling it a mixtape.”
Earlier this week, he gave fans a preview of the project by debuting the dreamy track “Baby Florence.” You can now stream the full project below. Featured artists include Toro y Moi, Tinashe, Kelsey Lu, Justine Skye, Arca, Project Pat, and Gangsta Boo, and Aaron Maine a.k.a. Porches.
Over the past few years, Hynes has collaborated with everyone from Solange and Sky Ferreira to Mariah Carey and Kylie Minogue. Providing some context to the project, Hynes explained how in the past he’s often made records that have been given to friends or put on tape and randomly given to people on the street.
In the statement, Hynes further elaborated on how he “put as much work and care into it as I do with the albums I’ve released, but for some reason trained myself into not releasing things the rate at which I make them. I’m older now though, and life is unpredictable and terrifying.”
Blood Orange will be playing shows throughout the rest of 2019, including dates opening for Tyler, the Creator’s ‘IGOR’ tour.
On this episode of The Dropcast, we are joined by Jabari “Jacuzzi” Khaled, founder of Basketball Skateboards and an under-the-radar creative who’s worked with your favorite designer’s favorite designers.
