Seemingly out of thin air, last week legendary footwear brand Converse unveiled the next generation of their iconic Chuck Taylor All Star silhouette. Fittingly titled the "Chuck Taylor All Star II," the super-streamlined kicks were met with excitement and curiosity around the world - and for good reason. After all, you don't just go change up a century-old silhouette for no reason. Eager to find out what exactly the famed brand updated, we laced up a pair and explored the German capital.

Immediately, sneakerheads will notice (and most likely be familiar with) the Lunarlon sole, courtesy of Nike. Giving the basketball sneaker the cushioning and arch support it deserves, this move was a no-brainer. Next up is the padded non-slip tongue. Again an absolute necessity and much-welcomed improvement given the nature of contemporary urban life. A perforated micro-suede liner follows in the impressive list of details, although you'll only notice it once you get your hands on a pair. The canvas that the first became famous for is back in a more premium rendition, while the license plate branding has been revitalized for 2015's HD requirements. Embossed and molded eyelets complete the tonal look throughout and an embroidered patch completes the streamlined look.

In a word, the Chuck Taylor All Star 2 has been upgraded to the standards of contemporary life. Functional enough for the unpredicable streets of Berlin and subtle enough for home and office life, Converse's next-gen sneakers are here to stay. To another 100 years.
