Melbourne is now home to the third Fonda Mexican Restaurant, which cleverly takes its name from a Mexican word that refers to a local house with an open kitchen. While Australia isn't the first place you might expect to find a passion for Mexican food, Fonda flies in the face of this idea by offering fresh cuisine while also presenting an aesthetically pleasing and playfully designed space. The building itself offers quite a bit of room, and has housed restaurants in the past, yet fellow Australians Techné Architecture + Interior Design has tackled the large space by dividing it into smaller, cozier sections for restaurant patrons to enjoy their quesadillas and burritos. The high ceilings in Melbourne's Fonda location play well against the eclectic use of materials and bold colors throughout, for a great result.
