Last week, news broke that Real Madrid megastar Cristiano Ronaldo was leaving the team for Italy’s Juventus, in a deal worth a staggering $140million. That may seem like a lot of money for a player who’s approaching the tail end of his career, but Ronaldo is more than just a player, he’s a brand, and Juventus’ signing of the player catapults the Turin team into the global spotlight.

Ronaldo’s star power was highlighted this week, when the Italian press reported that within 24 hours of it going online, Ronaldo’s signature Juventus jersey had sold over 520,000 units — and that’s before he’s even played a single game for the team.

Ronaldo’s CR7 jersey retails for €105 (roughly $123), so that means Juve will have grossed roughly €54million (around $63million) in just one day.

Of course, that doesn’t mean every single penny will be going to the club — most will go to the kit supplier adidas — but it goes to show just how much star power Ronaldo has; the team’s social media following has also rocketed since the transfer was announced.
