Forbes just unveiled the latest edition of their annual 30 Under 30 list, including their three new cover stars - Kendrick Lamar, Karlie Kloss, and Zedd. In a cover story titled “Kendrick Lamar, Conscious Capitalist,” Forbes senior editor Zack O'Malley Greenburg sat down with the Compton rapper for a revealing new interview.
The conversation, which originally took place at the publication’s 30 Under 30 summit back in October, has K. Dot going back to his roots, discussing when he first got into rap music, how he met one of his current managers, and how he believes hip-hop should continue to evolve.
“I want hip-hop to continue to evolve. That's why I can't shun a lot of the artists that may not be a Kendrick Lamar. But this is what I tell them every time I see them ... be yourself and do what you do but also know who laid down the groundwork,” he says in the interview.
