Amidst the grand displays of Fashion Week, Berlin-based label Last Heirs planned for a quieter affair, opting for a small gallery space to share its SS19 collection. Founders Lea Roth and Maximilian Dörner prepped for a comfortable, familial-like setting as friends, long-term supporters, and international buyers turned up to inaugurate the "Strength in Numbers" presentation.
The concept was simple. Cardboard boxes containing pieces from the collection lined the walls as models, wearing branded LH garments, worked to unpack them. Guests maneuvered around each other, inspecting pieces. Many items pointed towards the aesthetics of Berlin counterculture, specifically, the party world and its penchant for feminine cuts, heavy fabrics, fetishwear, and chunky-soled shoes.
It's fitting then that Doctor Martens was the official shoe partner on the project. Models sauntered around in vegan leather platforms while David Bowie's "Heroes" played in the background. Varied shades of red dominated the capsule with intermittent splashes of purple, black and white.
Key pieces such as white PVC cargo pants, a full body boiler suit, "Lost Hours" T-shirts, and heavy-duty hoodies with a translucent back panel made for an exciting take on party wear, especially when tied in with industrial elements like chains and buckling (as seen on the bag accessories) which the models toyed with as a distraction from the growing heat.
