Editor’s Notes: The Li-Ning Butterfly 2018 is a redesigned version of the podium shoes worn by Chinese athletes at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Coming in a series of colorways, the updated silhouette features striking similarities to none other than the YEEZY Wave Runner 700.
While the sneaker itself has been around for 18 years, the Butterfly’s updated design features clearly borrow cues from Kanye West’s efforts from last year, most likely in an attempt to latch on to the hype for the Wave Runner.
Debuting the silhouette at New York Fashion Week, the Chinese sportswear brand has outfitted the Butterfly 2018 in various eye-catching colorways, from a reflective silver to a white/black/green/blue getup.
